full choke to imp. cylinder
« on: November 06, 2015, 01:09:19 PM »
Hey I have a old rem. model 31 with a fixed full choke, how would I go about getting it changed down to a improved cylinder? Any suggestions on gunsmiths in the Bellevue area?

I had that done to a Wing master some years ago. I  wouldn't do it again. I could hit any thing that flied with that full coke, but after the modification, not so much.

I would go find a replacement barrel instead. :twocents:

Send it off to get threaded for choke tubes.

in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

The real question here is "why?" Why do you want to open it up? Opening up the choke won't mean more birds/better shooting.

I don't see anything wrong with opening up a full choke.

Full choke is limited in its usefulness. Why use a full choke where you have to wait and let the bird get further out before you shoot?

If he thinks he needs a more open choke, he probably does.  :dunno:

Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.
